Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
India is reviewing an invitation from the United States to join US President Donald Trump’s proposed Board of Peace for the Gaza Strip, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Thursday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi has received formal communication from Washington and is currently examining the proposal.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Jaiswal said India has not yet taken a position on participation, nor confirmed whether it would attend the board’s first proposed meeting scheduled for February 19. He reiterated that India has consistently supported efforts promoting peace, stability and dialogue in West Asia, including initiatives aimed at long-term peace in Gaza.
The Board of Peace has been formed under the umbrella of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 as a transitional authority to support governance, reconstruction and stability in Gaza. It is linked to plans for an International Stabilisation Force to help maintain a ceasefire and support demilitarisation and rebuilding efforts.
The board is chaired by the United States and includes senior international figures such as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, former UK prime minister Tony Blair, World Bank president Ajay Banga, Jared Kushner and Marc Rowan. While several countries from West Asia, Asia and Latin America have signalled acceptance, some major Western nations have adopted a cautious approach.
